Looking for a Greenland paddle preowned
Author Last Post
tomorrow. But the pics on their website are better than mine.

I find I use my Aleut paddle in both orientations. When held with the ridge facing sternward the loom shape puts the blade in a more or less vertical position in the water (much like a euro-blade). This feels right in this orientation. When the flat side faces sternward (like a GP) the loom shape puts the blade in a canted orientation (like a GP). This feels right in this orientation as well. It all works and it's fun to play with. Not sure if I prefer one or the other. Ultimately I prefer the Greenland paddle.
Today I went on a lake- I ended up barely paddling because I had zero energy- but on my way back I split my paddle in half and started using it like a canoe paddle and I did like it.

So maybe that’s a good way to go.
I have been paddling an Aleut stick since ‘06’ and love it. Takes a while to get the mechanics of the stroke down. I agree that the ridge should be facing to the rear. No actual information told me the orientation, just years of testing. Enjoy the paddle!

The company is East Pole, they have a website. The paddle has two different faces. Maybe you should research the paddles first. I use the side with the spine facing me (powerface?) Historically it is not proven how the Aleuts used them. There are pictures of them using either or. I just like to use it the way as I described. East Pole is shipping their paddles to the US and the price is not too bad! I absolutely love this paddle!

I’d love the info
I just started to use a wooden Aleut paddle, and love it. It is usually longer than a "normal" Greenland paddle. I can use it even in wider boats. I'm 5'3 and paddle different boats w different width. I got the paddle from Estonia. If you are interested, I give you the information.
That’s good to know. Maybe it’s just not the right paddle for me! Perhaps I just need to find a better quality paddle than the one that I have.

I hate to say it, but your height, arm length and boat width combination is pretty much a worst case scenario for a Greenland paddle. You would need one with a much longer loom than most people use. I hope you can find something to try, but it seems like a long shot.
Looking for a Greenland paddle preowned

Hello everyone! At the suggestion of the founder of the forum I am reaching out to see if anyone might have a Greenland paddle that they are looking to sell. I am new to kayak ownership and I have an inflatable advanced elements kayak that is very wide. It is 32 inches wide. From the reading I’ve done this may present a challenge in that the paddle itself may need to be longer than what I would otherwise get. I am 5 foot five with relatively short arms.

With that said, if you might be looking to sell a Greenland paddle please reach out. Before I spend the money to purchase one new, I thought it might be worthwhile having the opportunity to try one out at a lesser cost.

And if you don’t have one that you are looking to sell, yourself, but you have some info Or advice you can pass my way, I’d really appreciate! I’m looking forward to getting into this activity more!

Thanks,

Jay
